The Fitness Course
The Fitness Course is a health and fitness program designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle for our campers. Children participate in specially built, age appropriate obstacle courses. This program emphasizes physical activity choices with references to healthy eating habits. Children are educated as to the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle and the impact of making healthy food choices. They also learn simple, fun exercises that they can do daily. Children will improve motor skills, become more self aware and build confidence. Our certified trainers demonstrate proper form and breathing technique to ensure the highest level of safety.
Meet The Fitness Course Founder:
Glen O’Connor has 20 plus years of experience in the health/fitness profession. His career in the industry began while he was in High School and was hired by his local YMCA as a fitness trainer. During his college years at Stony Brook University, he worked as a personal trainer at a local gym to continue to learn more about the business. Furthermore, while home from college during the summer, he worked at a local Athletic Club near his home providing personal training to a variety of clients.
In 1998, his passion for fitness led him to pursue a certification with the American College Of Sports Medicine (ACSM). This prestigious certification has enabled him to broaden both his client base and knowledge over the past 15 years. It gives him great pleasure to leverage his experience and expertise in providing positive physical (and mental) changes for his clients and in achieving their personal fitness goals.
Glen has trained a multitude of client’s throughout his career and has focused on today’s youth over the past few years. As a father of two, he understands now more than ever the important role that fitness plays in a child’s life. He has happily become one of the soldiers fighting the war against childhood obesity. His passion to educate and exercise today’s youth (and adults), combined with his knowledge and experience, comprise a special skill-set unmatched by most!
**On a side-note, Glen is a passionate short distance runner and remains active in a multitude of ways. As he believes fitness should be fun, his personal exercise program revolves around activities he enjoys. In his earlier years he played soccer for several seasons, received his purple belt in tae-kwon-do, played in competitive racquetball leagues, played intramural football during college,… and has participated in over 50 running/obstacle races. He understands the importance of sports performance and can assist in these areas as well.
